Its body is made from anodized aluminum, with a fine black plastic piece that seamlessly merges with the camera's lens, also covering the infrared LED and microphone. All interactions with the Netatmo Welcome are through its companion app, where users can see who is currently home, access live streams, and review past footages. The device also respects individual privacy, allowing users to set privacy settings for each person recognized by the camera. The creation of the Netatmo Welcome was a year-long intensive project undertaken by dedicated software and hardware teams based in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris, France. The project required extensive research in image processing and computation to optimize powerful face detection and recognition algorithms. The challenge was fitting the camera's advanced technology and high-end optics into the slim 45 mm diameter aluminum shape, which also required efficient heat dissipation.
